"Share a Story" is an
interactive, multi-media kiosk designed to simulate a dialogue among visitors.
Using the touch-screen monitor, visitors can record and play back their own
two-minute video story. The kiosk simultaneously records the video to the
computer's hard drive, for immediate playback, and a VHS videotape, which
provides a long-term archive of stories. Visitors may also play back the stories
recorded by the three previous visitors, or several pre-recorded interviews with
local residents. The simple, graphical interface manages a complex system of
software and hardware that includes the computer, touch-screen monitor, color
video camera, and a VHS videocassette recorder. The software runs on Mac or
Windows systems.
